Most income from outside Spain (rent, dividends, interest abroad) is not taxed in Spain while you are in the regime.
Six tax years
The year you become tax resident in Spain and the five following ones.
No Modelo 720
While in the regime you do not have to file the foreign assets declaration.
Do you qualify?
The main conditions, in short. Every case has details, so we confirm yours in writing before you apply.
- You have not been tax resident in Spain in the previous 5 years
- You move to Spain for a job with a Spanish employer, to work remotely for a foreign company (for example with a digital nomad visa), as a company director or for an innovative business recognised under Spain’s startup rules
- You apply within 6 months of registering with Spanish Social Security (or of starting the activity)
- Your spouse and children under 25 may join you in the regime if they meet the conditions
Watch the 6-month deadline.
It runs from your registration with Spanish Social Security. Once it has passed, you cannot apply for this move. Message us as soon as you know your start date.

Beckham Law questions
What is the Beckham Law?
It is the popular name of the special tax regime for people who move to Spain to work (régimen especial de trabajadores desplazados, article 93 of the Spanish income tax law). It got its name when David Beckham joined Real Madrid in 2003. You are taxed as a non-resident: a flat 24% on your Spanish employment income up to €600,000, and most foreign income is not taxed in Spain.
What is the deadline to apply?
Six months from the date you register with Spanish Social Security (or start the activity that brings you to Spain). The deadline is strict: if you miss it, you cannot apply for that move. Contact us as soon as you have your start date.
Can freelancers (autónomos) use the Beckham Law?
Most regular freelancers cannot. The exceptions are entrepreneurs with an innovative business recognised under Spain’s startup rules and some highly qualified professionals working for startups or in research. If you work remotely as an employee of a foreign company, you can qualify. We check your case before you apply.
Does it make sense for everyone?
Not always. With a modest salary, or if you have children or mortgage-related deductions, the normal regime can sometimes be cheaper, because several personal and family allowances of the normal regime do not apply under the Beckham Law. We compare both before you decide.
What happens after six years?
From the seventh year you are taxed like any other Spanish resident, on your worldwide income, and the Modelo 720 obligations start. We help you prepare for the change.
